Ames Airport to Get $2.6 Million Safety Fence Upgrade
The Ames City Council has approved a $2.6 million contract to install a new barrier fence at the James Herman Banning Ames Municipal Airport. The fence, which aims to enhance safety by preventing animal strikes and unauthorized access to the airport’s runways, will replace the existing farm-style fence with an eight-foot-tall chain-link fence, including a black vinyl-coated section around the terminal area. The project, funded by Federal Airport Improvement funds and the Iowa Department of Transportation, is expected to take about a year to complete.
U.S. 30 Interchange Project Moves Forward with Road Closures in Ames
Construction continues on the U.S. 30 intersection project in Ames, with a new road closure set for Monday, Aug. 12. The closure of 580th Avenue/Teller Avenue north of U.S. 30 will allow crews to connect the old and new portions of the road and build a new interchange. This project is part of an effort to extend freeway access on Highway 30 from Ames to Nevada, improving safety along the corridor. The project remains on schedule, with completion expected by fall 2024.
