Alliance for Disability Awareness: Building Community at ISU

The Alliance for Disability Awareness (ADA) is revitalizing its presence at Iowa State, offering a welcoming space for students with disabilities to connect and share experiences. With 15% of ISU students affected by disabilities, ADA aims to foster understanding and advocacy.

Led by President Cat Reyes Phelps and Vice President Kaylin Dains, the group holds biweekly meetings with discussions, events, and open dialogue. Membership is open to all, including allies and those connected to the disability community.

For accommodations, students can contact ISU’s Student Accessibility Services, which offers support ranging from exam adjustments to housing and dining assistance.

ADA meets every other Thursday at 5 p.m. in 1158 Hixson-Lied Student Success Center.

Ames-Based Summit Carbon Solutions Secures Key Permits

Ames-based Summit Carbon Solutions has achieved a significant milestone with North Dakota granting a Route Permit for its CO2 pipeline project. This follows community-driven adjustments and reinforces the state's leadership in agriculture and energy.

With 82% of North Dakota easements in place and permits secured in Iowa, Summit is advancing its carbon capture infrastructure and will seek a permit in South Dakota on November 19.

Coping with Post-Election Stress

Two weeks after the election, many Americans are feeling stressed, fatigued, and overwhelmed, with mental health hotlines reporting spikes in activity. Young voters, especially first-timers, are among the most affected, facing burnout from constant political ads, social media, and 24/7 news cycles.

Students and experts suggest combating election fatigue by taking breaks from media, connecting with others, and focusing on community activities. Resources like counseling and crisis hotlines are also available for those needing extra support.
