Ames CSD Welcomes New Elementary Orchestra Teacher
Jotham Polashek, the new elementary orchestra teacher for Ames Community School District, is no stranger to the district's music program. Inspired by his mother, Mary Kay Polashek, who spent over 30 years teaching music in the same schools, Jotham returns to Ames with extensive musical expertise and a passion for continuing his mother's legacy. His journey from a young student to a seasoned musician and educator is a testament to his dedication to nurturing the next generation of musicians in Ames.

Matthew Adams is a School Counselor at Ames Middle School. Adams became a counselor to help students grow and learn in ways they may not otherwise have the opportunity to. If he has an hour of free time, he would like to spend time with his cats or play ultimate frisbee. Welcome to Ames!

Iowa State Prepares for Road Test at Drake
Iowa State (1-1) faces Drake (0-1-1) on Thursday, August 22, at 5 p.m. in Des Moines. The Cyclones aim to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Creighton as they seek their first win over Drake since 2015.
Key players for ISU include redshirt junior Magdalena Keck, who leads the team with two goals, and senior transfer Morgan Furmaniak, who has a goal and leads in shots. Goalkeeper Avery Gillahan has played all 180 minutes this season, with four saves and one shutout.
Drake comes into the match off a loss to Kansas, with freshman Isabella Balsley scoring the team's lone goal this season. ISU leads the all-time series 6-4-4 but has lost the last two matchups.
Iowa State will return home to face UNI on Sunday, August 25.
Iowa State Swimming & Diving Adds Four to 2024-25 Roster
Iowa State swimming and diving head coach Matt Leach has announced four new additions to the 2024-25 roster. The latest recruits include three transfers: Kayla Bulseco from Lindenwood, Keirlyn Mullica from Richmond, and Sophie Schmitz from Kenyon College, as well as international freshman Miray Abay from Turkey.
These new members join eight previous recruits, rounding out a 12-member class that will help build the future of ISU swimming and diving under Leach’s leadership.

William West served as the mayor of Ames, Iowa, from 1870-1871. He was the proprietor of the West Hotel. Before moving to Iowa, West was a legislator in Ohio. According to early Ames pioneer C.E. Taylor, West was childhood friends with future President General Ulysses S. Grant. Besides his mayoral role, he was a member of the City Council, the Board of Education, and the Methodist Episcopal Church. However, he resigned as mayor within the first three months of his one-year term, which was subsequently filled by W. D. Lucas.
