On August 5, Ames Police responded to a report of animal neglect at an apartment complex on the 3500 block of Grand Avenue. Property management discovered the cats in a vacated unit, which was filled with feces and urine, and an empty food bowl swarming with flies.

The suspect, 24-year-old Aaliyah Jean Klismith, reportedly moved out of the unit on August 1 and admitted to police that she left the cats behind, aware they had no proper care.
