The City of Ames is considering buying a $36,000 VertaCat, an adaptive golf cart, for use at Homewood Golf Course. This cart is designed to make golf accessible to individuals with mobility challenges, allowing them to stand, swing, and navigate the course. Features include joystick control, all-terrain mobility, and pivot-in-place technology.

The city is currently evaluating the purchase, which may happen this year or next. If approved, Ames officials will decide whether the cart will be available for rent and at what cost.

A demonstration of the VertaCat took place on Sept. 10, highlighting its benefits for both young and older users with mobility needs.
