Important Dates and Information for the 2024-25 School Year
The Ames Community School District is excited to welcome students and parents to the 2024-2025 school year. Here are some key dates and information to help you prepare:
Important Dates:
August 2: Final day to register a student and/or request bus transportation to ensure a route by the first day of school. Requests after this date will be accommodated after September 2.
August 12: Teacher assignments/schedules available in Infinite Campus for grades 1-12. Bus route information for EK-12 will also be available.
August 15: Teacher assignments available in Infinite Campus for preschool students.
August 21: Elementary Back to School Night and orientation for new families from 5-7 pm (grades EK-5).
August 23: First day of classes for EK-5, dismissal at 2:45 pm. AMS orientation for 6th grade and new 7th/8th graders, dismissal at 1:45 pm. AHS orientation for 9th grade, dismissal at 1:35 pm.
August 26: Classes begin for all grades EK-12 with regular dismissal times.
August 27: No classes for Kindergarten. Teacher assignments available in Infinite Campus.
August 31: Bus route information available in Infinite Campus for preschool students.
September 2: Labor Day, no school.
September 3: First day of preschool.
September 3-6: Elementary mini-conferences after school, with early dismissal at 12:45 pm.
Transportation:
The deadline for bus transportation requests, changes, or cancellations is August 2, 2024.
To request transportation, complete the transportation section during online registration through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Detailed instructions are on our website.
Only eligible students will receive transportation services. Cancel any unnecessary requests by August 2, 2024.
Other Important Information:
Pay school fees through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or by check/exact cash at the school office after August 5, 2024.
If applying for meal assistance, wait for confirmation from the District before paying fees.

Ames Community School District Welcomes Eric Sundermeyer as Interim Director of Student Services
The Ames Community School District is pleased to announce Eric Sundermeyer as the new Interim Director of Student Services. Sundermeyer brings a wealth of experience from various educational roles, including superintendent at Interstate 35 School District, associate superintendent at Ottumwa School District, and director of curriculum at Perry and West Liberty School Districts. Currently serving as Associate Director of Adult Education and Literacy at DMACC, Sundermeyer has a strong background in student affairs, community partnerships, and data accountability.
Sundermeyer holds degrees from North Iowa Area Community College, University of Northern Iowa, and Drake University. He will begin his new role on July 23, 2024, bringing innovative ideas and extensive expertise to Ames CSD.

18 Cyclones Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
Iowa State's men's and women's track and field and cross country teams have been recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic excellence. Both teams earned All-Academic status, and 18 individual Cyclones received All-Academic honors.
Among the women, Dana Feyen received her seventh All-Academic honor, with Janette Schraft and Madelynn Hill earning their fifth. First-time honorees include Riley Beach, Makayla Clark, Kiersten Fisher, Kailynn Gubbels, and Bella Heikes.
For the men, Gable Sieperda received his seventh honor, with Silas Winders and Rodgers Rotich earning their second. Jason Gómez, Jack Latham, Finley Mclear, Quinton Orr, and Garret Wagner were first-time recipients.
Teams qualify for the award with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, while individuals need a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must meet specific performance criteria in their events.
Freyler Nominated for Wuerffel Trophy and AFCA Good Works Team
Iowa State senior defensive back Beau Freyler has been nominated for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, recognizing his on-field performance and community impact. A standout since 2021, Freyler earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors in 2023 and Academic All-America status. He has made 25 career starts, including 22 consecutive, and played in 37 games.
Freyler was awarded the Cyclone Serve Award for his extensive community service during the 2023-24 academic year. Season tickets for the 2024 football season are now available, with options starting at $299.
