Ames Plans $1.4M Electric Vehicle Charging Station Near ISU

The City of Ames is planning to install a $1.4 million electric vehicle fast-charging facility near Iowa State University. The project, funded in part by a U.S. Department of Transportation grant, includes six Level 3 fast chargers to be located at 1910 Green Hills Drive, near the Gateway Hotel.

The new chargers will be faster than any currently available in Ames, enhancing infrastructure and encouraging the use of electric vehicles. The grant will cover 80% of the cost, with Ames responsible for the remaining $280,000, partially funded by the city’s Capital Improvements Plan.

City Manager Steve Schainker supports the project, stating that expanding charging infrastructure could encourage further electric vehicle adoption.
