Ames Introduces Mobile Command Trailer for Emergency Response and Outreach
The City of Ames has introduced a 27-foot mobile command trailer to enhance its emergency response and public safety efforts. Costing $214,233 and manufactured by JHB Group, the trailer will be deployed for emergencies, large community gatherings, and sporting events.
The trailer is equipped with advanced communication systems and can be quickly transported to various locations using existing City vehicles. It serves as a centralized hub for coordination during incidents, featuring state-of-the-art safety measures, air conditioning, heating, and a mobile hotspot for internet access.
Ames Fire Chief Rich Higgins highlighted that this new addition bolsters the city's capability to manage emergencies and provide services beyond the confines of City Hall, ensuring a more effective and responsive approach to public safety.
ISU Local Food Festival
The Iowa State University Local Food Festival is an annual celebration of local food and healthy living. This event centers around incorporating local foods into your daily meals, empowering healthy lifestyles, and sustainability-focused activities to engage students, faculty and staff to make connections with Ames and nearby communities. The festival features educational displays, locally grown and produced products for sale by local vendors and ISU clubs, and recipe samples using fresh-picked produce from the ISU Horticulture Research Station.

Public Demonstration of Inclusive Golf Cart at Homewood Golf Course
Ames Parks and Recreation invites the public to a demonstration of the VertaCat, an inclusive golf cart, on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Homewood Golf Course, 401 E. 20th St. The cart features on-the-ground positioning, stand-up assistance, joystick control, all-terrain mobility, and is adjustable for adults and kids. The department is considering the purchase of a VertaCat for public use.

Zimmerman Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Iowa State redshirt sophomore Ella Zimmerman has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week following a standout performance against UNI. Despite an injury sidelining her for the Drake match, Zimmerman excelled on Sunday, recording three points in 70 minutes. She earned her first career point with an assist and scored her first career goal, leading the Cyclones to a 6-0 victory. Zimmerman is the first Cyclone to receive this honor since 2016. ISU will next face top-ten Memphis on Sept. 1.
Iowa State Announces 2024-25 Farm Strong Team
Iowa State has revealed its 2024-25 Farm Strong Team, recognizing 16 student-athletes for their dedication, hard work, and integrity. The team, chosen in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau, highlights athletes who excel both academically and athletically. This year's honorees include Angelina Allen (Softball), Josie Bergstrom-Te Slaa (Gymnastics), and Beau Freyler (Football), amongst others. The Farm Strong squad will be celebrated through in-game recognitions, a Hilton Coliseum mural, and the annual Cyclone Scholar-Athlete Banquet.
New Ames Center Signage is Up!
The AMES Center has reached an exciting milestone with new signage now installed. The facility is set to open its doors to new therapeutic classrooms and the homeschool assistance program. The community eagerly awaits the services that will soon be available at this new center, marking a significant addition to educational and therapeutic resources in Ames.
