Ames Fire Sets Dates for Live Fire Training

The Ames Fire Department will conduct live fire training this summer at two locations on East Lincoln Way. The first training will take place at 4821 East Lincoln Way on Saturday, July 20, weather permitting. The second session will be held at 5501 East Lincoln Way on Friday, August 30, also weather permitting.

Training will begin around 9 a.m. with small interior fires, escalating to a full structure burn by mid-afternoon. Firefighters will remain on-site until the structure is reduced to smoldering materials, which may persist for several days until safe removal. The impact on the surrounding neighborhood is expected to be minimal, with potential smoke and rusty water in the area.

"Live fire training is essential for maintaining a skilled and professional fire crew," said Ames Fire Chief Rich Higgins. The training adheres to State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources and National Fire Protection Association standards. Traffic on East Lincoln Way will remain open during these events.

For questions or concerns, contact Fire Training Officer A.J. Plach at [email protected] or call 515.239.5107.
