2024 Iowa State Fair Breaks Record with Spectacular Opening Day
Scene from Day 1 at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on Aug. 8, 2024.
The Iowa State Fair is off to a roaring start in 2024, with opening day attendance reaching 90,822 on Thursday, August 8. This marks a significant increase from last year's first day attendance of 87,380, representing an uptick of 3,442 visitors.
With a notable rise in advance ticket sales this year—16,000 more than in previous years—the fair is poised to continue its impressive trajectory. Last year, the Iowa State Fair set multiple records, including eight new animal sales records and the highest number of water bottles sold. The 2023 fair attracted over 1.1 million attendees, making it the second-largest fair on record.
The increase in opening day attendance suggests that the 2024 fair could be on track to break more records. Stay tuned for updates as the fair continues to welcome visitors and showcase the best of Iowa's agriculture, entertainment, and culture.
