Ames Launches Used Musical Instrument Drive

Stephens Auditorium in Ames is hosting a used musical instrument drive throughout the month to benefit local schools' band and music programs. Last year’s initiative saw 60 instruments donated to Story County schools, and organizers hope to surpass that number this year.

Donations can be dropped off at Stephens Auditorium during performances or box office hours. Note: Pianos are not accepted. Executive Director Tammy Koolbeck highlighted the program's positive impact, emphasizing its role in enriching the community and supporting music education.

ISU Students Craft New IPA for Backpocket Brewing

Iowa State University students in the “Science and Practice of Brewing” course have partnered with Backpocket Brewing to create a new IPA for commercial production. After weeks of learning brewing science and techniques, students competed to develop a "new American IPA" that combines the fruity flavors of hazy IPAs with the crisp bitterness of West Coast IPAs.

The winning brew, Alien Juice Party IPA, crafted by Team 3, features bold citrus flavors, subtle bitterness, and a refreshing finish. This collaboration highlights ISU's innovative brewing science program and will see the winning IPA served at Backpocket Brewing locations in Coralville, Dubuque, and Johnston, Iowa.
