Food Insecurity Challenge Concludes with $9,000 in Prizes

The Food Insecurity Challenge pitch-off will take place Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Great Hall. The winning team will receive $5,000, with additional prizes for second and third place.

This student-led challenge began Nov. 6 with a Hunger Banquet to raise awareness about food inequality. Teams will present solutions to food insecurity, with cash prizes totaling $9,000.

Ames Parks & Recreation Recruiting for Summer 2025

The Ames Parks and Recreation Department is hiring for various positions at Furman Aquatic Center for the 2025 summer season. Positions include Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Shift Leaders, and more. Applicants must be 14 or older.

Applications open Wednesday, Nov. 27, and close Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.

Iowa State Student Employees Eligible for Employee of the Year Award

Iowa State’s Student Employment Center is now accepting nominations for the Employee of the Year award. Supervisors can nominate student employees who demonstrate excellence in areas like community service, teamwork, leadership, and innovation.

The award winner will receive a financial aid scholarship, an acrylic award, and a certificate, with the announcement made during National Student Employment Week in April. Nominations are open until January.

No. 5 Iowa State Cruises to 87-52 Victory Over IU Indianapolis

Iowa State extended its winning streak to three games with a commanding 87-52 win over IU Indianapolis on Monday night at Hilton Coliseum. Curtis Jones led the Cyclones with 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Joshua Jefferson notched a perfect 7-for-7 shooting performance, contributing 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Iowa State started hot, building a 17-5 lead early and heading into halftime up 49-29. Defensive pressure forced 19 turnovers, with Tamin Lipsey tallying five steals to move up to No. 7 on ISU's career steals list. The Cyclones maintained control in the second half, securing their 21st consecutive home win.

The Cyclones now turn their attention to the prestigious Maui Invitational, where they’ll face No. 4 Auburn in the first round on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

Iowa State Men Head to NCAA Championships Ranked No. 4

Iowa State’s men’s cross country team is ranked No. 4 nationally heading into the NCAA Championships, maintaining its position in the top five all season. The Cyclones earned an automatic bid after finishing second at the NCAA Midwest Regional and are seeking their third top-five finish in four years.

The 10K race takes place on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10:10 a.m. CT in Madison, Wisconsin, and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

Iowa State Signs Four Players for 2025 Soccer Season

Iowa State head coach Matt Fannon announced the signing of four prep players to National Letters of Intent for the 2025 season: Sophie Forrester, Grace Luedde, Alaina Villa, and Megan Walters. Fannon praised the class as potentially the best he’s ever recruited, expecting them to make an immediate impact.

Forrester, Luedde, Villa, and Walters bring a mix of athleticism and skill, with accomplishments in soccer and other sports like field hockey and track. The quartet will join the Cyclones in the 2025 season.

Porcher Named Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week

Iowa State women’s cross country runner Maelle Porcher has been named the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week following her performance at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Porcher finished third at the regional, earning her third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships with a time of 19:52.8. She will represent the Cyclones in the women’s 6K at the national championship meet on November 23 in Madison, Wisconsin. This marks the 16th straight season that Iowa State women will compete at the NCAA Championships.

Ames High Students Showcase Watershed Health

Join Ames High students to learn about the vital watersheds supporting our environment. Students will present their work on the Ioway, Skunk, and Mississippi River Watersheds.
