Mullets, Ames' Newest Restaurant, Now Open for Three Meals a Day

Mullet's opened its first Ames location with a soft opening Wednesday. The restaurant is located at 4518 Mortensen Road and served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its grand opening is Friday. Ronna Faaborg/Ames Tribune

Mullets, Ames' highly anticipated 1980s-themed eatery and bar, is now serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Located at 4518 Mortensen Road, the restaurant occupies the former West Towne Pub site.

After a successful soft opening on Wednesday, Mullets will celebrate its grand opening on Friday. The venue, known for its lively atmosphere, features ‘80s and ‘90s music, a game room, and a large patio overlooking a pond. The dining room showcases a mural celebrating Ames and Iowa State University history.

Local owners Jordan and Miranda Cook aim to offer the same beloved breakfast and brunch experience as the original Mullets in Des Moines, with an expanded dinner menu. Most breakfast items are available all day.

The Ames Police Department is actively seeking applicants who excel in critical thinking, problem-solving, and multi-tasking under pressure. The department is looking for individuals who can meet these high expectations and serve the Ames community effectively.

Ames Community School District Enhances Playgrounds for Accessibility

Construction teams have been working diligently to equip new playgrounds at Edwards, Meeker, and Northwood with features catering to a wide range of abilities. These include sensory play elements and wheelchair-accessible equipment, ensuring a fun, safe, and inclusive space for all students to play, learn, and grow together.

The Ames Community School District is excited to announce that these playgrounds will soon be ready for use. Stay tuned for updates as we approach the ribbon-cutting events for each playground. The district looks forward to seeing students enjoy these fantastic new play areas. Below are some photo updates from Meeker's playground.

Iowa State Well Represented In The Olympics

Beauvy, May Earn Cobalt Golf All-American Scholar Honors

Iowa State rising juniors Paul Beauvy and Zach May have been named to the 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-American Scholars Team.

To qualify for this prestigious honor, nominees must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors in NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, or final-year NJCAA students. They must participate in at least 50% of their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 76.0 (Division I), and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. Recipients must also exhibit high moral character and be in good standing at their institution.

This year, 531 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
