Cyclones Fall 4-2 to No. 8 Memphis
Iowa State (2-2-1) was defeated by No. 8 Memphis (4-0) in a 4-2 match on Sunday. The Cyclones became the first team this season to score multiple goals against Memphis, with Adelaide Wolfe netting her first goal for ISU and Magdalena Keck scoring her third of the season.
Memphis dominated the first half, scoring three goals, and added a fourth shortly after Keck's goal in the second half. Cyclone goalkeeper Avery Gillahan made four saves, but Memphis held a commanding 18-6 shot advantage. Despite a strong second half, Iowa State could not overcome Memphis's potent offense.
Next, the Cyclones host Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Cyclone Soccer Complex.
Caleb Bacon Injury Update: ISU Star Linebacker's Status Uncertain
Iowa State linebacker Caleb Bacon suffered an apparent leg injury in the first quarter of Saturday's 21-3 win over North Dakota and did not return to the game. Head coach Matt Campbell stated the severity of Bacon's injury is still unclear, with more details expected soon.
Bacon, a key player on Iowa State's defense, was missed as the Cyclones struggled defensively, allowing 295 yards and multiple third-down conversions. His absence forced backups Zachary Lovett and Jack Sadowsky to step in.
"We're hoping it's not significant," Campbell said, as the team awaits further evaluation.
