Public Invited to Ada Hayden Park's 20th Anniversary Celebration
The City of Ames invites the community to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ada Hayden Heritage Park on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the park’s north shelter. The event will feature remarks from Ames Mayor John Haila, former Mayor Ted Tedesco, FAHHP Board President Jim Pease, and Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham. Following the presentations, attendees can enjoy cake and ice cream, and a guided walk around the park led by a FAHHP board member.
The park, named after Ada Hayden, an Ames native and a pioneering conservationist, was established in 2004 and offers a range of recreational amenities including trails, fishing docks, and wetlands.

City of Ames Offices Closed on Labor Day
Most City of Ames offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, including:
City Hall: 515 Clark Ave.
Community Center and Weight Room: 515 Clark Ave.
Ames Public Library and Bookmobile: 515 Douglas Ave.
Resource Recovery Plant: 110 Center Ave.

Facility Hours
Furman Aquatic Center: Open 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for Tot Time and adult activities, and 1 - 6 p.m. for open swim. The Duck Derby starts at 6:30 p.m. For updates, visit Furman Aquatic Center or call 515-239-5434, category 6.
Ames/ISU Ice Arena: Open with Stick and Helmet (10:15 - 11:45 a.m.), Public Skate (Noon - 2 p.m.), and Figure Freestyle (4:45 - 6:15 p.m.).
Homewood Golf Course: Open for play. Reserve tee times at Ames Park & Rec.

Bowen Flemming Leads Little Cyclones to 4-0 with Strong Performance at Veenker
Bowen Flemming shot a 76 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course, leading the Ames High Little Cyclones to victories over Des Moines Roosevelt and Marshalltown. With these wins, the boys' golf team remains undefeated, improving their early-season record to 4-0.
Dresser Adds Layne Malczewski as Graduate Assistant
Iowa State head wrestling coach Kevin Dresser has welcomed former Michigan State standout Layne Malczewski to his staff as a graduate assistant for the 2024-25 season. A five-time NCAA qualifier, Malczewski brings a wealth of experience, having compiled a 104-49 record with the Spartans. He was also a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and an NWCA Scholar All-American. Dresser expressed enthusiasm about Malczewski's energy and outlook, anticipating a strong impact on the Cyclones' young upper weights.
Cyclones Set for Exhibition Match Against No. 18 Minnesota
Iowa State will face No. 18 Minnesota in a final exhibition match on Saturday at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis. The Cyclones, who received votes in the preseason AVCA poll, will take on the Golden Gophers at 3 p.m. in a match that will not be streamed or have live stats available.
Head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch, entering her 20th season, leads a Cyclones team returning 10 players who accounted for 72% of kills and 58% of blocks last season. Notable players include sophomore Nayeli Gonzalez and transfers Tierney Jackson (West Virginia) and Amiree Hendricks-Walker (South Florida).
Following this exhibition, Iowa State opens the regular season at the Rebel Challenge in Las Vegas, facing Pacific on Aug. 30 and UNLV on Aug. 31.
