U.S. Election Set for November 5, 2024: See Ames Polling Locations

The 2024 U.S. General Election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 5. Voters across the country will cast their ballots for key races, including the U.S. Presidential election, congressional seats, and various state and local offices.

In Ames, Iowa, polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Residents can find their designated polling location by visiting the Story County Auditor’s website. Below is a list of polling stations in Ames:

  • Ames 01 - Buchanan Hall, Room 2009, 2160 Lincoln Way

  • Ames 03/Grant Twp - Ames Public Library Auditorium, 515 Douglas Ave

  • Ames 05/Washington Twp 2 - Green Hills Community, 2205 Green Hills Dr

Final Days for Early Voting in Story County

Early voting for Story County, Iowa, continues through Monday, with polling at the Administration Building in Nevada from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Voters must bring an Iowa-issued ID or voter registration card. Election day registration is available, and absentee ballots must be returned in person by 8 p.m. Tuesday. For specific polling information, visit the Iowa Secretary of State’s website.

ISU Food Insecurity Challenge Offers $5,000 Prize

Iowa State’s Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship is launching its Food Insecurity Challenge, with a $5,000 grand prize for a student team addressing food insecurity. Sponsored by the Ivy College of Business and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the challenge begins with a kick-off event from 5-8 p.m, Wednesday in the Memorial Union Sun Room. Participants will explore local and global food insecurity solutions through presentations and mentor guidance, culminating in a pitch competition on Nov. 19.

Ames "Old Chicago" Pizzeria Bids Farewell on Halloween

Ames’ "Old Chicago," a pizzeria and taproom known for its World Beer Tours, announced its closure on Oct. 22, with the last day of service on Halloween. The location has offered unique experiences like seasonal “mini tours” with special menus and prizes for loyal patrons. Their final mini tour, the Halloween Tour, wraps up with their closure. In a farewell message on social media, the restaurant expressed gratitude to the Ames community for over 40 years of support.

Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Ames Crash

A head-on collision late Thursday night in Ames claimed the life of 67-year-old John Berg, who was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of 13th Street. His Buick Rendezvous collided with a Honda Fit driven by a 28-year-old woman, who was subsequently taken to an Ames hospital by Story County EMS. The crash occurred on 13th Street, a four-lane road with a grass median, between Hyland Avenue and Stange Road.

No. 11 Iowa State Falls to Texas Tech, 23–22

No. 11 Iowa State suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Texas Tech, 23–22, on a late five-yard touchdown run by Tahj Brooks with just 19 seconds remaining. The Cyclones now stand at 7–1 overall and 4–1 in the Big 12, tied for second place with Colorado and trailing No. 9 BYU. Meanwhile, No. 17 Kansas State drops to third after losing to Houston, 24–19.

Cyclones Push TCU to Five Sets in Close Volleyball Match

Iowa State Volleyball (9-12, 3-6 Big 12) took No. 18 TCU to an intense five-set match on Friday, marking TCU’s first five-set home game this season. After TCU clinched the first two sets (25-20), Iowa State rallied, winning sets three and four to force a fifth. Key performances included Morgan Brandt with 25 assists, Brooke Stonestreet with 23 digs, and Faith DeRonde leading ISU in kills. TCU ultimately took the final set 15-11. Iowa State will face Houston at home on Nov. 6.

Cyclone Men Secure Podium Finish at Big 12 Championships

Iowa State’s No. 4 men’s cross country team took third at the 2024 Big 12 Championships, trailing only top-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 2 BYU. The Cyclones had a strong showing, with eight runners placing in the top 25 and four earning All-Big 12 honors. Leading the pack was Robin Kwemoi Bera, who finished fourth overall, followed by Said Mechaal, Joash Ruto, and Sanele Masondo.

The Cyclones are now setting their sights on the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 15, aiming to improve on last season’s regional runner-up finish.

Cyclones Stunned as Midland Scores Four in Final Period to Take Win

Iowa State fell to Midland University 4-0 on Friday after a strong start but a scoreless third period that cost them the game. After controlling much of the play defensively in the first two periods, the Cyclones couldn’t hold back Midland’s surge in the third, where the Warriors scored all four of their goals. Goalie Jack Woitalla kept the Cyclones competitive early on with several key saves, while Sam Eaton and the offense were unable to capitalize on key scoring chances.
