Rummage RAMPage Raises Record Amount; Diverts Tons from Landfill; Helps Non-Profits
The eighth annual Rummage RAMPage in Ames achieved a record-breaking success this year, raising $62,362 for local non-profits, surpassing last year's total. The event, held from July 26 to August 3, also diverted 132,782 pounds of furniture and housewares from the landfill, bringing the total to over 865,000 pounds saved since its inception. Fifty-one non-profit organizations participated, benefiting from the proceeds based on volunteer hours contributed. Plans for the next Rummage RAMPage are already underway, set for July 25 to August 2, 2025.

Danfoss Power Solutions in Ames. Google Earth
Danfoss Power Solutions in Ames has announced the layoff of 40 employees, effective August 31. The layoffs come in response to a downturn in the agricultural sector, which has impacted the demand for farming machinery. The company stated that these changes are part of an effort to enhance cost competitiveness and decision-making. Affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company and access a transition program offering separation benefits and outplacement services.
The Ames plant, one of the city’s largest industrial employers with over 1,000 workers, has been in operation since 1971.

Cyclones Set to Face Creighton in Home Opener
Iowa State (1-0) aims to continue its strong start to the season as it hosts Creighton (0-1) at the Cyclone Sports Complex on Sunday, August 18, at 6 p.m. The Cyclones opened their season with a 3-0 win over Western Illinois, with goals from Magdalena Keck, Chloe Broughton, and Weber State transfer Morgan Furmaniak.
Head coach Matt Fannon is one win away from his 100th career victory. The Cyclones dominated in their opener, outshooting WIU 24-4, and will look to replicate that performance against Creighton, a team they’ve historically controlled with a 7-1-2 series lead.
Creighton enters the match after a 1-2 loss to Minnesota. Senior Azumi Manriki scored for the Bluejays, and junior goalkeeper Alyssa Zalac recorded six saves. Creighton returns 15 letterwinners, including Manriki and fifth-year senior Lara Kazandjian, who will anchor their attack.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with free admission for fans attending in person.
