Stephens Auditorium to Host 'An Evening with David Sedaris
Humor writer David Sedaris will return to Ames for a performance at Stephens Auditorium on October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Known for his personal essays and short stories, Sedaris is the author of several bestselling books, including “Barrel Fever,” “Holidays on Ice,” and “Me Talk Pretty One Day.” His most recent book, “Happy-Go-Lucky,” debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list.
Tammy Koolbeck, executive director of Stephens Auditorium, expressed excitement about Sedaris' return, noting his last visit was in October 2010. Sedaris' career boasts five Grammy Award nominations and various prestigious awards. Tickets for the show start at $43.50 and are available on ticketmaster.com
Iowa Swine Day 2024: Integrating Sports, Business, and Pork Industry Insights
The 2024 Iowa Swine Day, scheduled for Thursday, July 25, at the Iowa State Center in Ames, will feature four plenary speakers discussing key topics relevant to the pork industry. Ross Bernstein will present "The Champions Code," focusing on integrity and accountability from sports to business. Steve Weiss, CEO of NutriQuest, will address sustainability and profitability in the pork industry. Jamee Eggers, COO of Cloverleaf Animal Welfare Systems, will cover the California Proposition 12 certification process. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will discuss the political landscape of Iowa agriculture.
The event includes an optional preconference symposium on soybean meal on July 24, followed by a swine networking social. Registration costs $85, with free attendance for students.

Hawley, Cyclones Earn NABC Academic Awards
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced its annual academic awards, recognizing Iowa State's academic achievements. Cyclone junior Conrad Hawley was named to the NABC Honors Court, and the team received the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards honor men's basketball programs with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year. The NABC Honors Court acknowledges junior, senior, and graduate student players with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Iowa State recorded a 3.26 GPA for the year, with a 3.22 GPA in the fall semester and a record-high 3.31 GPA in the spring semester.
Iowa State Cross Country Unveils 2024 Schedule
Iowa State cross country teams have announced their 2024 schedule, aiming to build on their successful 2023 season where both men and women finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships. The Cyclones will kick off their season with the Cyclone Preview in Ames on August 30.
Key meets include the Nuttycombe Invitational and the Wisconsin Pre-National meet, both in Madison, Wisconsin, where the NCAA Championships will be held on November 23. The Cyclones will also compete in the Big 12 Championships in Waco on November 1 and the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Illinois, on November 15.
Returning athletes and a deep roster of sophomores and freshmen have coaches Jeremy Sudbury and Amy Rudolph optimistic about the upcoming season.
