Old Burger King restaurant on Lincoln Way may become Dunkin' coffee shop

The old Burger King building at 209 Lincoln Way in Ames, Iowa, is seen on June 18, 2024 Nirmalendu Majumdar/Ames Tribune

The old Burger King on Lincoln Way in Ames may be redeveloped into a Dunkin' drive-thru coffee shop, pending Ames City Council approval. The proposal includes reusing most of the building, adding indoor seating, removing the play structure, and reconstructing the parking area and drive-thru. The property owner is seeking waivers for reducing parking spaces and reconfiguring the drive-thru. The council is expected to approve these changes, which aim to modernize the site and signal investment in the Downtown Gateway Commercial district. The council will review the proposal on July 9.

Ames, Iowa - Always make sure you have an escape route. Stay on paved roads when you can. Don’t get too close.

Iowa State University students and instructors experienced the power and danger of storm chasing firsthand during an eight-day field study in May. The team, led by co-instructors Bill Gallus, Dave Flory, and Lindsay Maudlin, got too close to an EF-3 tornado in Carbon, Iowa, highlighting the importance of safety protocols. The course, designed to teach storm observation, included lectures, simulations, and real-world chasing, fulfilling a long-standing student demand. The intense weather activity provided invaluable learning experiences as the group traversed the Midwest, equipped with weather instruments and a passion for meteorology.
