How Much Do You Know About Ames?
Question: Who donated the land for the original Hoggatt School site?
(Answer at the bottom of the newsletter)
Eastbound Lane of 24th Street to Close Monday and Tuesday for Paving Work
The eastbound lane of 24th Street between Stange Road and Hayes Avenue will be closed on Monday, Aug. 26, and Tuesday, Aug. 27, for paving work, weather permitting. The westbound lane will stay open. Paving will occur during the day, with the eastbound lane reopening by the evening. Detours will be in place for eastbound traffic, directing drivers to Bloomington Road or 13th Street. Expect delays as the work zone will have reduced speeds and narrow lanes. The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct to complete this and other improvements along 24th Street.

Singleton to Wear No. 58 in Honor of Curtis Bray for Second Year
Iowa State redshirt senior J.R. Singleton will continue to wear No. 58 for the 2024 season, honoring former assistant coach Curtis Bray. This marks the second consecutive year Singleton has carried on the tradition, which began in 2014 to remember Bray, who passed away in 2014.
Bray, a standout player at Pittsburgh and a Cyclone assistant coach from 2009-13, remains a significant figure in the program. Singleton, now in his fifth season, had a strong 2023 campaign and aims to build on that success.
Additionally, the Curtis Bray Memorial Scholarship, awarded for the third year, goes to public relations major Macee Wilkie from Clear Lake, Iowa.
