How Much Do You Know About Ames?

Question: What annual event in Ames, Iowa, brings together over 100 artists from across the Midwest for exhibitions and special activities?

(Answer at the bottom of the newsletter)

Eastbound Lanes of 24th Street to Close Today

The eastbound lanes of 24th Street will close Tuesday, June 25, for pavement removal and replacement. Traffic will be diverted to the two newly paved lanes, with one lane in each direction. The closure is anticipated to last 10 to 12 weeks. During this time, the shared use path along the south side of 24th Street will close for the construction of new storm sewer utilities.

Residents are encouraged to use alternate roues if possible. The work zone will have low speeds and narrow lanes. Allow extra time as delays will occur. Please follow the marked detour route for the shared use path closure.

The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct for the reconstruction of Stange Road and 24th Street. Stange Road was completed in 2023, while 24th Street is being reconstructed in a three-stage project. The project is entering its final stage and will include storm sewer improvements and new sections of shared use path along the south 24th Street, which will be headed by Con-Struct’s subcontractor, Granite. For more project information, please visit the project information webpage at www.CityofAmes.org/stange.

This annual award is given by Ag Leader to the supplier that excels in meeting the company's needs. Ag Leader representatives visited Pace Industries' headquarters in Maple Lake on Tuesday, June 18, to present the award. The event included a meal catered by The Butchery of Maple Lake.

Iowa State University and OPN Architects Collaborate on 3D-Printed Installation for Rudd Public Library

A digital rendering of the installation for the new Rudd Public Library that resulted from a collaboration between Iowa State University and OPN Architects.

Iowa State University and OPN Architects are teaming up to create a unique outdoor seating installation for the new Rudd Public Library, replacing the building destroyed by a tornado in December 2021. Combining ISU’s 3D-printing capabilities with OPN’s design expertise, the project is led by Justin Bishop, an ISU graduate and Rudd native.

ISU’s 3D Affordable Innovative Technologies Housing Project provided the equipment and workspace, while OPN used augmented reality for precise design. In June, OPN employees worked with ISU’s 3D printer to create the concrete pieces. This collaboration allows both organizations to explore 3D printing in construction.

The installation will feature seven unique concrete pieces, blending art and functionality. This project highlights the innovative potential of 3D printing and contributes a meaningful addition to the Rudd community.

Iowa State Football Adds Ethan Stecker to 2025 Class

Ethan Stecker, a standout from Spirit Lake High School, committed to Iowa State for their 2025 football class. As a 6-foot-4, 200-pound safety, Stecker played a crucial role in Spirit Lake's journey to the Iowa Class 2A semifinals. In the 2023 season, he recorded 18.5 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two interceptions, including a touchdown return. Despite being unrated by 247Sports, Stecker is recognized as a three-star recruit by Rivals.

Apart from his defensive skills, Stecker excelled as a receiver with 31 receptions, 636 yards, and seven touchdowns. His athleticism extends beyond football; he's a state champion in the 110-meter hurdles and earned accolades on the Des Moines Register's All-Iowa team for track. At Iowa State's prospect camps, Stecker impressed coaches with his agility and ability to make challenging catches in coverage. His commitment adds depth to Iowa State's 2025 class, particularly in the safety position alongside Mason Ellens from Illinois. With his size and versatile skills, Stecker promises to bring valuable assets to the Cyclones' roster.
