Sunday Motorcycle Crash in Ames Claims One Life
A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of an individual on Sunday in Ames. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Bloomington Road and Top O Hollow Road.
The Ames Police and Fire Departments quickly responded to the scene, finding the motorcyclist in the roadway upon arrival. It was noted that the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Despite efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities are withholding the victim's identity pending family notification.
The Ames Police Department is seeking information from anyone who might have details about the crash. They can be reached at (515) 239-5133 or through the anonymous tip line at (515) 239-5533. Additionally, tips can be submitted online to Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at www.crimestoppersofcentraliowa.com.

Ames is gearing up for a festive Independence Day celebration, starting with a spectacular community fireworks show on July 3. The display is set to begin at approximately 9:30 p.m., with the best viewing spots around Jack Trice Stadium and Reiman Gardens on University Blvd.
The festivities continue the next morning with a patriotic 4th of July parade. Residents are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue and gather along Main Street or 5th Street in downtown Ames. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m., promising a fun and festive experience for all.
Nick Nolte: Actor and Producer
Nick Nolte, born February 8, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska, spent part of his early life in Ames, Iowa. He is a renowned actor and producer, known for his diverse roles in both film and television. Nolte's breakout role came in the 1976 miniseries "Rich Man, Poor Man," and he has since starred in acclaimed films such as "The Prince of Tides," "Affliction," and "Warrior."

Three Iowa State Women's Golfers Named to WGCA All-American Scholar Team
Three Iowa State women's golfers, Liyana Durisic, Tess Blair, and Keeley Marx, have been named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. Durisic earns this honor for the third time, while Blair and Marx are first-time recipients. The award recognizes their high academic achievements, requiring a GPA of 3.50 or higher and participation in at least 50% of the team's competitive rounds.
2024 Iowa State Hall of Fame Induction: Ticket Sales Open
Registration is open for the 2024 Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, September 20 at the Sukup End Zone Club, Jack Trice Stadium. Six former athletes will be honored, including Rich Binek, Melvin Ejim, Victoria Henson, Lyndsey Medders, Kelechi Osemele, and Mike VanArsdale. The ceremony includes a social hour at 5 p.m., dinner, and presentations. Inductees will also be recognized at halftime during the Iowa State-Arkansas State football game on September 21. Tickets are $50 each.
