Iowa State alum and former wrestler Nels Matson ran 3,067 miles across the U.S. to honor Navy SEAL Christopher Campbell’s dying wish of supporting the Wounded Warrior Project. Matson carried Campbell’s boots during his 46-day journey from San Francisco to New York City, raising $35,000 and celebrating over 130,000 donations made to the cause.
Born with a congenital heart defect, Matson has previously completed endurance challenges for charitable causes. His cross-country run commemorates Campbell’s legacy of helping veterans and continues to inspire support for wounded warriors.

Iowa State master’s student Mia Nichols has turned her love for French culture and entrepreneurship into a thriving food truck, "C’est la Crêpe." Inspired by her French heritage and a trip to France in 2023, Nichols serves authentic sweet and savory crêpes, along with galettes made from traditional buckwheat flour.
Committed to sustainability, the business uses compostable supplies and educates employees on reducing food waste. Iowa State Secures 34-17 Victory Over Cincinnati
Iowa State snapped a two-game losing streak with a strong second-half performance, defeating Cincinnati 34-17. Rocco Becht led the Cyclones with 282 total yards, including a key 15-yard touchdown run and a TD pass to Stevo Klotz. Abu Sama III sealed the win with a late 27-yard rushing score.
The Cyclones, now 8-2 (5-2 Big 12), clinched a winning conference record for the seventh time under Matt Campbell. Iowa State's defense limited Cincinnati to 66 passing yards and only 121 total yards in the second half, overcoming an early 10-10 tie.
Next, Iowa State visits Utah before closing the season at home against Kansas State on Nov. 30.
Iowa State Sweeps Texas Tech, 3-0
Iowa State (10-14, 4-9 Big 12) dominated Texas Tech (13-13, 5-9 Big 12) in a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-21, 25-19), hitting .307 and serving eight aces. The win ties Christy Johnson-Lynch for third-most Big 12 victories in conference history with 207.
Lilly Wachholz and Faith DeRonde led with 12 kills each, while Rachel Van Gorp recorded 13 digs. ISU's serving and strong offensive consistency propelled the Cyclones to their fifth .300+ hitting match this season.
Next, Iowa State visits No. 9 Arizona State on Nov. 21 before wrapping up the season at home.
No. 11 Iowa State Secures 29-9 Win Over Navy
Iowa State (1-1) earned its first victory of the season, defeating Navy 29-9 at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones claimed seven of 10 matches, including five with bonus points. Freshman Adrian Meza dominated at 125 pounds with a 19-7 major decision, while No. 9 Anthony Echemendia and heavyweight Daniel Herrera each secured technical falls.
Key wins included No. 16 Evan Bockman’s 8-3 decision at 184 pounds and No. 20 Christian Carroll’s 14-6 major decision at 197. Iowa State showcased dominance with a 34-5 takedown advantage.
The Cyclones face Iowa in the Cy-Hawk Series on Nov. 23.
No. 4 Iowa State Men Qualify for NCAA Championships
The No. 4 Iowa State men’s cross country team secured an automatic NCAA Championship bid with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional. All seven Cyclone runners earned All-Midwest Region honors.
Said Mechaal and Robin Kwemoi Bera led the charge, finishing third and fourth, respectively, with just 0.1 seconds separating them. Senior Gable Sieperda placed 11th, becoming a four-time NCAA Championships qualifier. Sanele Masondo (13th) and Silas Winders (15th) completed Iowa State's top five.
The Cyclones, making their ninth NCAA appearance in 10 years, will compete in Madison, Wisconsin, on Nov. 23, aiming for a top-five national finish.
Four Cyclones Win Titles at Grand View Open
Adrian Meza (125), MJ Gaitan (165), Aiden Riggins (174), and Cole Carlucci (Fresh/Soph 184) claimed championships at the Grand View Open, leading a strong performance by Iowa State. Overall, 15 Cyclones secured podium finishes.
Iowa State returns to action on Nov. 23 in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series dual against Iowa.
