Former Iowa Teacher and Apartment Maintenance Worker Faces Extradition for Child Pornography Charges
A former Iowa high school teacher and convicted sex offender, Luke Crouse, is facing extradition to Virginia on multiple child pornography and sexual abuse charges. Crouse, who was employed as a maintenance worker at Haverkamp Properties in Ames, was arrested in November and is currently detained in Story County Jail.
Crouse was previously convicted in 2018 for transferring obscene material to a minor and was fired from his teaching position at Collins-Maxwell Community School District for inappropriate online behavior.

ISSO Fall Community Meal Brings Students Together
On Tuesday, the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) hosted its Fall Community Meal at Iowa State University's Memorial Union. Over 500 students, faculty, staff, and community members enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
The event aimed to reduce feelings of isolation during fall break, foster connections, and provide a free meal for those facing food insecurity. Attendees enjoyed turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and other halal, vegan, and vegetarian dishes. The event also featured a Kahoot game with various trivia categories. Students, including international freshmen, appreciated the event’s welcoming atmosphere and cultural inclusivity.
CAPER Available for Public Review
The 2023-2024 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) is available for public review through Dec. 16. The report details the City of Ames’ use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. Copies are available at Ames City Hall and the Ames Public Library or at www.cityofames.org/housing. A public hearing will be held on Dec. 17 during the Ames City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Contact Vanessa Baker-Latimer at least three business days before the meeting for special accommodations.

Keshon Gilbert Named Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week
Iowa State men’s basketball player Keshon Gilbert earned Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week honors after an outstanding performance at the Maui Invitational, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team. Gilbert averaged 20.7 points per game, including 23 points in a narrow loss to No. 4 Auburn and 24 points in a win against Dayton. He also contributed 11 assists, six rebounds, and five steals during the tournament. The Cyclones return to action Wednesday at Hilton Coliseum against Marquette, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

No. 20 Iowa State will face USC Upstate on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa, with a 6:30 p.m. tip-off. The Cyclones, holding a 6-2 record, are unbeaten at home this season and seek to maintain their strong form. Led by standout players Audi Crooks and Emily Ryan, Iowa State has excelled offensively, ranking 14th nationally in assists per game and holding an NCAA record for consecutive games with a made three-pointer at 935. Ames High Art Club Spreads Kindness Through Art
The Ames High Art Club showcases student creativity through its 2025 calendar fundraiser, which features student artwork. Proceeds will support future initiatives, including the Memory Project, where students paint portraits for children in Honduras. Calendars are available for $7.00 each, and those interested can contact Lindsay Wede at Ames High School to purchase. Recently, the club shared its efforts and impact with Channel 13’s Megan Salois.
Ames High Esports Team Earns Fourth Place at State Tournament
The Ames High Esports team secured fourth place in Smash Ultimate at the IAHSEA State Tournament. This marks the team’s sixth consecutive season qualifying for the state tournament, showcasing their consistent dedication and skill.
