Jason Keith Named Senior Vice President and Provost of Iowa State University
Jason Keith named as senior vice president and provost.
Iowa State University has announced the appointment of Jason Keith as the next senior vice president and provost, pending approval by the Board of Regents.
Keith will succeed Jonathan Wickert, who has served as provost for 12 years and will continue at the university as a professor of mechanical engineering.
Keith comes to Iowa State from Mississippi State University, where he served as the dean of the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering for the past decade. Before that, he was the director of Mississippi State’s Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering.
"President Wintersteen’s vision for Iowa State University resonates perfectly with my belief in what a public land-grant university should be all about," Keith stated in the release. "I am thrilled to join her leadership team and have this opportunity to lead academic affairs to new heights in teaching, research, extension, and service."
Keith's selection followed a nationwide search led by an 18-member search committee chaired by David Spalding, vice president for economic development and industry relations and dean of the Ivy College of Business.
Keith will begin his term on August 1 as a member of Wintersteen’s senior leadership team and cabinet.

The 2024 Summer Reading Challenge “Read, Renew, Repeat” started on June 1. The summer reading incentive is open to all ages, with prizes geared toward toddlers, kids, teens, and adults.
Participants can earn prizes by tracking how many minutes they have read. Prizes are given out at the 100, 200, and 400-minute marks. Participants can earn extra prizes for 700 minutes of reading. Additional minutes will earn extra tickets for prize drawings at the end of the summer.
Minutes can be tracked through the library's online application, Beanstack, or through a physical sheet that may be picked up at the library.
The Summer Reading Challenge will last until Aug. 22.
Free Meals for Kids and Teens All Summer
The Ames Library is offering free lunch for kids and teens on weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Library Auditorium.
Lunch is free to all youth 18 years and younger, while meals for adults are $3.50. Library cards are not required for meals.
The meal program is something the library does every summer, Youth Services Manager Brianne Anderson said.
"The USDA has a program we participated in for years, but right now, based on census tracks, we're not USDA funded," Anderson said. "However, we felt it was important to continue."
The library provides meals thanks to fundraising from the Ames Public Library Friends Foundation and with the help of sponsors Chevron REG and Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Four Potential Breakout Players in Iowa State Football's 2024 Campaign
Kyle Konrardy kicks a field goal during the Cyclones' spring football scrimmage on April 20 at Jack Trice Stadium
Iowa State football isn't exactly a team of unknowns. According to ESPN's Bill Connelly, the Cyclones return the second-most production in the country overall, including 90% of its offensive output and 80% on defense. As a result, many familiar faces will be making big plays for Iowa State in 2024.
Here are four players who are set for a breakout season. If things go their way, the Cyclones should be right in the mix for a Big 12 title in a wide-open race.
1. Isaiah Alston, WR
This transfer from Army is a potential game-changer. Despite playing in just four games before sustaining an injury last season, Alston averaged about 30 yards per catch and led his team in receiving yards. At 6-foot-4, he offers a significant big-play threat and could be remembered for some huge moments this season. Although Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins are the top receivers, Alston's size and playmaking ability could lead to several touchdowns.
2. Kyle Konrardy, K
With Chase Contreraz gone, Konrardy made a strong impression in the Cyclones' spring game by drilling four of five field goal attempts, including three from 40+ yards out. His longest, a 42-yarder, was kicked into the wind on a gusty April afternoon. Konrardy claims he can comfortably make 60-yard field goals, which would make the Cyclones a scoring threat from the opponent's 45-yard line. This level of range and consistency gives him All-Big 12 potential.
3. Darien Porter, DB
Porter, a former wide receiver, is stepping into the Cyclones' secondary after the departure of TJ Tampa to the NFL. Last season, Porter recorded 10 tackles and three pass deflections in limited action. At 6-foot-4, he could be tasked with covering bigger red-zone threats. His elite speed and experience as a receiver can help him create turnovers and handle special teams duties effectively. With returning players like Myles Purchase, Malik Verdon, and Jeremiah Cooper, Porter has plenty of support.
4. Abu Sama, RB
Sama is an undeniable talent who led the team with 614 rushing yards last season, averaging 7.3 yards per carry with six touchdowns. His 276-yard, three-touchdown game against Kansas State in the snow is unforgettable. With potential for a three-down role, Sama could easily surpass 1,000 rushing yards. His speed also makes him a valuable asset in the passing game, particularly for screen plays. If unleashed, Sama is an easy All-America candidate for 2024.
These four players have the potential to elevate Iowa State football to new heights in the upcoming season. Keep an eye on them as the Cyclones aim for a Big 12 title.
Breaking Down Iowa State Women's Basketball Roster for 2024-25
The Iowa State women's basketball team was one of last season's biggest surprise stories. The Cyclones, powered by a strong group of freshmen, reached the Big 12 Tournament title game and came within a win of the Sweet 16. Expectations are high as they bring back key contributors and welcome new faces from the transfer portal.
Here’s a closer look at Iowa State’s roster for 2024-25:
1. Audi Crooks
Crooks emerged as one of the best freshmen in the nation, averaging a team-high 19.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. With a year of experience, Crooks could be even better as a sophomore.
2. Emily Ryan
Ryan, who missed part of last season due to injury, returns for 2024-25, providing a steady point guard presence and valuable experience.
3. Addy Brown
Brown averaged 13 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. Her versatility will be crucial as she continues to excel in various roles.
4. Arianna Jackson
Jackson played a significant role last season, especially on defense. Now healthy, she could become a key 3-point scorer.
5. Sydney Harris
A transfer from TCU, Harris brings size, strength, and experience, averaging 14.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game over the last two seasons.
6. Kelsey Joens
Joens provided important minutes off the bench last season, averaging 5.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She could become one of the team's top 3-point shooters.
7. Alisa Williams
Williams, a transfer from LSU, adds size and experience at the 4 position and offers flexibility with her ability to play multiple positions.
8. Aili Tanke
Tanke, a strong 3-point shooter from high school, will contribute from beyond the arc and potentially develop into a versatile player.
9. Lilly Taulelei
Taulelei, a transfer from UMass, will back up Crooks. The 6-foot-3 center/forward averaged 6.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last season.
10. Kenzie Hare
Hare, a transfer from Marquette, averaged 14 points per game and set a school record for 3-pointers. She will help fill the gap left by graduated sharpshooter Hannah Belanger.
11. Lily Hansford
Hansford, a transfer from Oregon State, will aim to provide a consistent 3-point threat, having shot 45% from beyond the arc last season.
12. Reagan Wilson
Wilson, a promising freshman guard, is already impressing coaches with her vocal leadership and is likely the point guard of the future.
With this mix of returning talent and new additions, the Cyclones are poised for another exciting season.
