Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Ames Water Pollution Control Facility Upgrade
Ames will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the $53 million Water Pollution Control Facility Nutrient Reduction Modifications project at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 56797 280th St. The public is invited to attend.
The project will upgrade the facility, which processes wastewater for Ames, Iowa State University, and nearby communities, to meet state nutrient reduction standards. The enhancements will transition the facility from a trickling filter/solids contact process to a biological nutrient reduction process over the next 20 years.
Iowa State Begins $39 Million Renovation of LeBaron Hall
Iowa State University has started a $39 million renovation of LeBaron Hall, part of a $51.5 million project that includes updates to McKay Hall and the Human Nutritional Science Building. The new three-story building will feature classrooms, studios, a multipurpose courtyard, and renovated lobbies. The project is funded through private donations, including a $15.5 million lead gift, and university funds. Construction is expected to be completed by fall 2026.
During construction, classes typically held in LeBaron Hall will be relocated to other campus buildings.
Lane Closures on Lincoln Way and Franklin Avenue Intersection Begin Monday
Starting Monday, Sept. 9, the center lanes of Lincoln Way at Franklin Avenue will close for one to two weeks to remove and replace a manhole. During this period, traffic on Franklin Avenue will be limited to right turns only, with no through traffic allowed.
After this phase, traffic on Lincoln Way will shift to single lanes to facilitate pavement work on the north halves of Marshall and Franklin avenues. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and expect delays.

Lipsey and Gilbert Earn Blue Ribbon Preseason Honors
Iowa State's Tamin Lipsey and Keshon Gilbert have been recognized by Blue Ribbon Basketball Yearbook with spots on the All-Big 12 Preseason Team. Lipsey was also named a Third Team Preseason All-American. The Cyclones are projected to finish second in the Big 12, behind Kansas.
Last season, Lipsey made the All-Big 12 First Team, while Gilbert was on the Second Team. Both players, along with Milan Momcilovic, were named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team, with Gilbert earning MVP honors. Lipsey and Gilbert were the first duo in NCAA history to each average at least 12.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in the same season.
Iowa State begins the 2024-25 season on November 4 at Hilton Coliseum against Mississippi Valley State.
Iowa State vs. Northern Colorado Primer
Iowa State (2-2-2) faces Northern Colorado (0-7) at the Cyclone Soccer Complex this Sunday, September 8 at 1 p.m., marking Senior Day. The Cyclones will honor eight seniors — Sadie Baich, Morgan Furmaniak, Magdalena Keck, Leia Khairy, Seulgi Lee, Lauren McConnell, Hannah Shaw, and Yira Yoggerst — with a ceremony before the game.
Iowa State aims to bounce back after a 2-2 draw with Michigan, led by Furmaniak, who scored her fourth goal of the season. The Cyclones' offense has been strong, with nine players contributing goals this season.
Northern Colorado is winless this season, with only two goals scored. Kaya Lindberg, UNC's goalkeeper, has a 2.33 goals-against average with 30 saves.
Iowa State leads the series against Northern Colorado 2-0. The Cyclones will begin Big 12 play next against Kansas on September 11.
Iowa State to Join Open Training Week
Iowa State will participate in the United Soccer Coaches' nationwide Open Training Week, offering a chance for local soccer enthusiasts to observe a collegiate-level training session. The Cyclones' open training session will be held on September 17 from 3-5 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
This event is part of a larger initiative running from September 16-22, where soccer teams across the country invite local coaches to experience their training sessions, share ideas, and learn from one another. Registration for ISU's session is free, and interested participants can sign up by selecting the Iowa State session on the event page.
