Fourth of July Festivities Continue in Ames: Parades and Patriotic Concerts Await

The Ames area is gearing up to celebrate the Fourth of July with a variety of festivities later today, including parades, fireworks, and concerts. The celebrations began yesterday, July 3rd, with fireworks near Jack Trice Stadium, sponsored by Discover Ames. Reiman Gardens extended its hours and welcomed visitors with folding chairs and coolers, but no fireworks or sparklers were allowed. Today's events include the Fourth of July parade on Main Street at 11 a.m. and a Patriotic Concert and Veterans’ Recognition by the Ames Municipal Band at 8 p.m. in Bandshell Park, featuring vocalist Aaron Lott. Downtown Ames is ready for the annual parade, with positive weather forecasted, ensuring a great community celebration.

Celebrate Independence Day with Ames Municipal Band's Patriotic Concert Tonight

Program of event

Today, on America's Independence Day, the Ames Municipal Band will perform a special concert at Bandshell Park, celebrating the occasion with patriotic music. This is the fifth concert of the 2024 season, directed by Mike Golemo, and will feature vocalist Aaron Lott and guest conductor Mark Whitlock. The event starts at 8:00 p.m. and promises a musical tribute to the country.

Fourth of July Fireworks

Last night, the Ames community enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show east of Jack Trice Stadium. The event commenced around 9:50 p.m. when the sky was completely dark, lighting up the night with dazzling displays and bringing together families and friends to celebrate Independence Day.

Celebrate July 4th with a Community Potluck at Brookside Park

Join us today at the Maple Shelter in Brookside Park, Ames, for the "Potluck with The People" event in celebration of Independence Day. The festivities will provide a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share and their own beverages. Beer and wine are allowed at the event. To ensure everyone has what they need, organizers will provide paper products and water.

Free Lunches for Youth at Ames Public Library This Summer in the Spirit of July 4

The Ames Public Library is ensuring that youth in the community have access to nutritious meals this summer by offering free lunches on weekdays. Starting today, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., all youth 18 years and younger can enjoy a free lunch in the Library's Auditorium.

Adults accompanying youth can also partake in the meal for a nominal fee of $3.50. This initiative aims to support the well-being of children and teens by providing them with a healthy meal to fuel their summer activities. Please note that baby formula is not available as part of this program.

Following the Fourth of July celebrations, this program continues the spirit of community and togetherness, offering families an opportunity to enjoy a meal in a welcoming space. Don’t miss out on this chance to ensure your children have a full stomach of good food throughout the summer.

Car Show 4th Of July Event from Nearby City

Celebrate Independence Day weekend with thousands of hot rod enthusiasts at the Goodguys 33rd Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals presented by BASF at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, from July 5-7. The event features over 5,000 vehicles including hot rods, trucks, customs, muscle cars, and classics. Enjoy the Classic Performance Products AutoCross series, swap meet, Cars 4 Sale Corral, vendor midway, live music, and top awards including the Builder’s Choice Awards. Michael Naperalsky has been appointed as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at Iowa State University, after spending eight seasons at Louisville. His career includes roles at the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and the University of Montana, and he has worked with athletes from over 20 countries.
