Ames City Council Approves Zoning Change for Social Services

The Ames City Council approved a zoning change allowing social service providers, like Ames Romero House, to operate in the Single-Family Conservation Overlay (O-SFC) district with a Special Use Permit. This decision, backed by a 4-2 vote, permits limited use near commercial zones, addressing neighborhood concerns while supporting vital community services.

Other council actions included approving temporary event permits for 1400 South Fourth Street and incentivizing net-zero-ready homes with solar energy systems. Updates on the Steven L. Schainker Plaza indicate a spring 2025 completion.
