Founded this fall, NSSO provides a safe space, study groups, skill-building strategies, and social activities to foster community and success.

The group hosts weekly study sessions featuring "body doubling," where members work together to boost productivity. Despite challenges in recruitment, recent Student Government funding of $1,150 will support expanded activities in the spring.

Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series: Iowa State vs. Iowa

No. 3 Iowa State (7-1) heads to Iowa City to face Iowa (7-2) in the highly anticipated Cy-Hawk Series matchup on Thursday, Dec. 12. The Cyclones, riding a four-game win streak, aim to snap a nine-year losing streak in Iowa City. Led by standout Keshon Gilbert, averaging 17.4 points per game, Iowa State boasts a deep roster with five players averaging double figures. Iowa, coming off a dramatic buzzer-beater win over Northwestern, is led by senior forward Payton Sandfort and tops the Big Ten in assists. This will be the 78th meeting in a series Iowa leads 48-29.

The Importance of the Cy-Hawk Men’s Basketball Game

The Cy-Hawk rivalry, deeply rooted in tradition, remains a highlight of the sports calendar for fans of Iowa and Iowa State. While Iowa leads the all-time series 48-29 since the first game in 1910, the matchup has grown increasingly competitive, with each team winning five of the last ten games. Recent contests have often been lopsided, with early leads deciding outcomes, as seen in Iowa State’s 90-65 win last year and Iowa’s 75-56 victory in 2022. Players like Tamin Lipsey and Milan Momcilovic emphasize the game’s intensity, with its emotional significance resonating deeply among fans and athletes alike.

No. 18 Iowa State vs. No. 21 Iowa Primer

The Cy-Hawk rivalry heats up as No. 18 Iowa State takes on No. 21 Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. CT. Iowa leads the series 32-23, with a dominant 20-6 record in Iowa City.

Iowa State’s standout center Audi Crooks has scored in double figures in 42 consecutive games, including a season-high 33 points in a win over Drake. Crooks continues to break records with her scoring and efficiency in the post. Meanwhile, point guard Emily Ryan, the NCAA’s active leader in assists with 854, drives the Cyclones’ offense with her playmaking and leadership.

The Cyclones are one of the top assisting teams in the nation and have maintained an NCAA record of 937 consecutive games with a three-pointer. Both teams come in with momentum, setting the stage for another exciting chapter in this storied rivalry.
