Iowa State Expands Mental Health Support and Resources for Students
Iowa State University is seeing a positive trend as students increasingly seek mental health resources. ISU psychologist Kristen Sievert reports that more students are discussing mental health and utilizing available services. The university provides various options, including individual and group counseling, online therapy, and peer coaching, tailored to meet different needs.
The Student Counseling Services offer short-term counseling and workshops, while Therapy Assistance Online (TAO) supports mental health education. Group therapy has proven effective in helping students connect with peers and reduce feelings of isolation.
The Wellbeing Coaching program, launched in 2023, has also gained popularity. It pairs students with peer coaches to address well-being issues, creating a supportive bridge to additional resources.
Iowa State ensures students are aware of these resources from their first day on campus through orientation and the Cyclone Support website, a comprehensive mental health resource hub.
