ISU Homecoming Week 2024: 'Cy Around the World' Celebration Begins
Homecoming Week 2024 at Iowa State University, themed "Cy Around the World," is set with events for the entire Cyclone community:
Kickoff Event: Sunday, Oct. 27, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Alumni Center with live performances, games, and free quesadillas.
Lunch on Campus: Monday-Thursday, Oct. 28-31, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., central campus. Vendors include Jimmy John's, The Machine Shed (chili/cinnamon rolls), grilled burgers, and BBQ from Whatcha Smokin’. Homecoming button required for food access.
Honors and Awards Ceremony: Friday, Nov. 1, 1:30 p.m., Stephens Auditorium, recognizing over 40 alumni and friends, followed by a dessert reception.
Pep Rally & Celebration: Friday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m., Alumni Center. Happy hour, pizza, games, and giveaways followed by a rally with the marching band and Cyclone athletes at 6:45 p.m.
Fireworks & Midnight Campaniling: Friday, Nov. 1, 11:59 p.m., central campus.
Office Decorating Contest: Friday, Nov. 1, judging begins at noon.
Events bring campus and community together to celebrate ISU’s heritage and school spirit!
ISU Borlaug Lecture to Launch Homecoming Week
Kick off Iowa State University’s Homecoming Week by attending the annual Borlaug Lecture on Monday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Durham Great Hall. This year’s lecture features 2024 World Food Prize Laureates Geoffrey Hawtin and Cary Fowler, who will discuss their work in protecting crop biodiversity. Arrive early to view the Borlaug Lecture Poster Competition in the Sun Room and South Ballroom from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Cyclones Fall Short in Five-Set Battle Against Kansas State
Iowa State (9-10, 3-5 Big 12) fought to the end in a marathon match against Kansas State, ultimately falling 3-2 by scores of 21-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, and 20-22. The Cyclones saw six match points in an intense fifth set but couldn’t close it out, with K-State's Aliyah Carter leading with 30 kills.
Lilly Wachholz delivered 17 kills at a .484 clip, while Faith DeRonde added 16, marking her third straight double-digit match. Defensive efforts included 29 digs from Brooke Stonestreet, with freshman Rachel Van Gorp adding 17 digs and setter Emily Bobbitt notching 18 assists and a double-double. Iowa State now heads to Texas to take on Baylor on Oct. 30 and TCU on Nov. 1.
Cyclones Climb to No. 11 in Latest AP Poll
Following a bye week, Iowa State Football rose to No. 11 in the latest AP poll, tying with Clemson. BYU is now the highest-ranked team in the Big 12, while Colorado entered the poll after a victory over Cincinnati, bringing the conference's ranked teams to four.
Barenaked Ladies to Perform at Stephens Auditorium
Catch Barenaked Ladies live at Stephens Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m., with Toad the Wet Sprocket opening the show. This marks the band’s return to Ames since their 2004 performance with Dave Matthews Band. Tickets are available at the Stephens Ticket Office or online through Ticketmaster here. Don’t miss a night of iconic hits and a high-energy performance!
Howl-o-Ween Dog Costume Contest at Reiman Gardens
Celebrate Halloween with your four-legged friend!
