Cyclones Prepare for Houston’s Aggressive Defense in Big 12 Opener

Iowa State faces Houston in its Big 12 opener on Saturday night. At Tuesday’s press conference, Cyclone players and coaches highlighted Houston’s turnover-focused defense. Quarterback Rocco Becht emphasized the importance of ball security, noting Houston's ability to force fumbles.

The Cyclones also plan to continue using the I-formation, inspired by running backs coach Tyler Roehl's time at North Dakota State. Offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser praised Roehl's creativity in contributing to Iowa State's new-look offense.

Houston will use both Donovan Smith and Zeon Chriss at quarterback. Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell stressed the importance of focus, avoiding complacency, and continuing to improve. A win would make Campbell Iowa State’s all-time winningest coach.
