Ames City Council Approves Plans for Mini-Pitch Soccer Court at Lloyd Kurtz Park

The Ames City Council has approved the construction of a mini-pitch soccer court at Lloyd Kurtz Park, offering a fast-paced, small-sided soccer experience on a hard-surfaced court. While the project is estimated to cost around $338,000, the city currently has just under $261,000 budgeted. Depending on bid results, funds leftover from other projects may cover the shortfall. Bids are due Oct. 23, with the project slated for completion by May 31, 2025. The council is also exploring public sponsorship to offset costs.

ISU's Large Animal Hospital Expansion Gets $2.8M Budget Increase

Iowa State University’s Large Animal Hospital expansion project at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center has received an additional $2.8 million in funding, raising the total budget by 31%. The expansion aims to enhance services, particularly in equine reproductive and sports medicine, and will include new ICU stalls, a rehabilitation room, and an in vitro fertilization (IVF) embryo transfer lab. Construction, already underway, will be completed in phases by fall 2026, and is funded through the College of Veterinary Medicine and private donations.

Cyclone Women Finish as Runners-Up in Lincoln

The Iowa State women's cross country team claimed runner-up honors at the 2024 Greeno/Dirksen Invitational in Lincoln. Led by top-10 finishes from Aspen Fulbright (6th) and Ashlyn Keeney (9th), the Cyclones secured second place overall. Ruby Hughes and Mya Trober also contributed strong performances, finishing in the top 20.

The team now prepares for the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, on Sept. 27.

Freyler Named to Jason Witten Man of the Year Watch List

Iowa State senior defensive back Beau Freyler has been named to the 2024 Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year watch list, recognizing 52 of the nation's top football leaders.

A two-time team co-captain, Freyler has been a consistent performer on the field and earned the Cyclone Serve Award for his outstanding community service.

Semifinalists will be announced on October 22, with the winner revealed at an award ceremony at AT&T Stadium on February 12, 2025.

Big 12 Women’s Basketball Schedule Announced for 2024-25

The Iowa State women's basketball Big 12 schedule dates were released for the 2024-25 season. The Cyclones will play UCF, Kansas, and Kansas State twice (home and away), with all other Big 12 teams once.

Conference play begins on Dec. 21 at Oklahoma State, with ISU’s first home Big 12 game on Jan. 1 against Kansas. The season wraps up on March 2 against Kansas State, followed by the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City from March 5-10.
