ISU Settles Harassment and Retaliation Case with Second Employee for $124,000

Iowa State University (ISU) has agreed to a $124,000 settlement with Caitlynn Miller, an executive assistant in the operations and finance department, following her allegations of harassment and retaliation. This settlement mirrors a similar agreement reached with her former boss, Shawn Norman, the previous senior vice president for operations and finance.

The settlement, finalized on May 17, stipulates that Miller will receive $61,000 within 30 days, with subsequent installments of $21,000 in 2025, 2026, and 2027, contingent upon her signing "Renewed Release and Covenant" documents each year. These documents ensure that Miller will not pursue any legal action against the university and confirm that she has not experienced any undisclosed discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.

Miller remains in her position at ISU, now serving under Interim Senior Vice President Heather Paris. The terms of the settlement do not alter her employment conditions.

Shawn Norman, who began his tenure at ISU in early 2023 and departed on December 1 of the same year, also received a $124,000 settlement. Both agreements include a clause preventing them from suing the university.

In related news, ISU has initiated a national search for a new senior vice president for operations and finance. The search, managed by a seven-person committee and the Academic Search firm, aims to fill the position before the upcoming fall semester.
