Kamala Harris Concedes, Congratulates Trump on Presidential Victory
Vice President Kamala Harris officially conceded to Donald Trump on Wednesday, congratulating him on his victory. In a phone call with the president-elect, Harris emphasized the importance of a peaceful transition of power. Later, she delivered a concession speech at Howard University, acknowledging the outcome and encouraging unity. President Joe Biden also spoke with Trump and invited him for a meeting to support the transition. Harris's concession reflects a return to traditional transitions following Trump’s own 2020 refusal to concede.
Key Wins in Iowa Statehouse Election
In Iowa’s recent elections, Republicans expanded their majority, strengthening a powerful trifecta with a 64-36 House margin and a Senate supermajority of 33-16. Noteworthy shifts included Democrat Matt Blake’s win over seasoned GOP Senator Brad Zaun in Senate District 22 and Democrat Rob Johnson’s victory in House District 34, filling the seat of retiring Democrat Ako Abdul-Samad. Other key races in Senate Districts 14, 20, and House Districts 30, 34, and 39 highlighted this election's competitiveness. The upcoming legislative session is set to open January 13, 2025.
Unopposed Story County Officials Re-elected in Smooth Vote
Three incumbent Democrats in Story County—covering the positions of supervisor, auditor, and sheriff—were re-elected in uncontested races, according to unofficial election results. While a dozen precincts faced voting machine issues, 33 out of 45 precincts had reported results as of Wednesday afternoon.

Cyclones Ranked No. 17 in First CFP Rankings of 2024
Iowa State football is ranked No. 17 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2024. With a 7-1 record (4-1 in Big 12 play), this marks the fifth season ISU has been ranked under head coach Matt Campbell. The Cyclones are one of four Big 12 teams in the rankings.
ISU will face Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m. on FS1.
