Students, Vendors Highlight Benefits of Housing Fair

Representatives from Copper Beach spoke to students at the Housing Fair on Sep. 26, 2024.

The Housing Fair at Iowa State, hosted by Student Engagement, attracted a strong turnout of students and provided valuable housing information and giveaways. Students had the opportunity to explore different living options, with junior Kylie Richardson highlighting the variety of choices available. Kristine Heflin, associate director of the Memorial Union, emphasized that the fair goes beyond finding housing, offering resources like legal services, fire safety, and financial advice. The event helped students understand the full scope of living both on and off-campus.

Iowa State University to Host SMC Week

Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication is hosting Sports Media and Communication (SMC) Week starting Monday, September 30. Students are invited to learn more about the newly launched sports media and communication major, explore study abroad opportunities, and hear from guest speaker Clinton Yates from ESPN. This event provides valuable insights for students interested in pursuing careers in sports media.

Kenneth L. Rancourt Receives Distinguished Alumni Award in Meteorology

Kenneth L. Rancourt, a meteorology alumnus from Iowa State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been honored with the Department of Earth, Atmosphere, and Climate Distinguished Alumni Award. Rancourt's career began with the Weather Radar Research Group and later involved significant work at the Mount Washington Observatory, where he contributed to wind energy projects, mentored interns, and co-managed a sensor project with the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Cyclones Wrap Up Successful Weekend in Colorado

Iowa State tennis finished a strong weekend in Fort Collins, Colorado, going 4-0 on Sunday and claiming another flight championship. Freshman Julia Camblor won the Flight C singles title after advancing to the finals, while Cristina Ramos Sierra and Suzanie Pretorius each picked up singles victories in extra matches.

Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Ashlee Narker were named co-champions of Flight A singles, as their final match was abandoned. In doubles, the Cyclones also secured co-championships in Flight A and a third-place finish in Flight B.

Matt Campbell Becomes Iowa State’s Winningest Coach in 20-0 Win at Houston

Matt Campbell made history as Iowa State's winningest head coach with his 57th victory, leading the No. 18 Cyclones to a 20-0 win over Houston in their Big 12 opener. Campbell surpassed Dan McCarney's record, with his family surprising him after the game.

The Cyclones improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2000. Jayden Higgins caught a touchdown in his sixth straight game, breaking a school record. Abu Sama sealed the win with a 77-yard touchdown run, as ISU’s defense forced three turnovers and held Houston to 241 total yards. Iowa State will host Baylor next Saturday.

Cyclones Set for Windy City Classic

Iowa State heads to Wilmette, Illinois, for the Windy City Classic at Westmoreland Country Club. The Cyclones will face seven ranked teams and two Big 12 opponents in their fourth straight appearance at the tournament, where they have consistently finished in the top 15.

Key players include Alexandra Vidal, who holds the team's lowest round this season with a 65, and Pammy Chookaew, who leads the team with a 70.60 stroke average.
