Christine Prescott, the new director of Reiman Gardens, began her role on August 1, with a mission to increase community engagement with the botanical garden. An Iowa State alumna, Prescott views Reiman Gardens as a "hidden gem" and plans to expand programming and events to attract diverse visitors. Her focus includes fostering a love of nature and promoting the gardens as a community space. Prescott, who has a background in nonprofit work and education, aims to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor, Ed Lyon, and prepare the gardens for its 30th anniversary in 2025.

Under Prescott’s leadership, Reiman Gardens will continue innovative events like "Rovers at Reiman," allowing dogs and their owners to enjoy the gardens during extended evening hours in September.

Matt Stutzman, known as the 'Armless Archer,' won gold for Team USA in the men's individual compound archery competition at the Paris Paralympics. The Fairfield, Iowa native, who was born without arms, secured his second Paralympic medal after a dramatic 149-147 victory over China's Ai Xinliang in the final. Stutzman's score of 149 set a new Paralympic record, adding to the silver medal he won in 2012.

Cyclones Start 2024 Season with 21-3 Win Over North Dakota

Iowa State opened its 2024 season with a 21-3 win against North Dakota at Jack Trice Stadium. Quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing score. Jaylin Noel had eight catches for 135 yards and a touchdown, helping Iowa State overcome a resilient North Dakota team.

The Cyclones took an early lead with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Becht to Jayden Higgins but struggled to find momentum as North Dakota kept the game close. The Fighting Hawks narrowed the gap with a field goal after a long drive, but Iowa State responded with a touchdown pass to Noel and a Becht rushing score in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Next up, the Cyclones face the 25th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in a tough road game.
