New Iowa Laws Taking Effect July 1: What You Need to Know

Several new Iowa laws will take effect on July 1, including restrictions on automated traffic enforcement cameras, limits on the potency of edible hemp products, and the elimination of numerous state boards and commissions. The Republican-controlled legislature passed laws impacting education, businesses, and the criminal justice system. Notable regulations include new THC potency limits, requiring approval for traffic cameras, and a blocked law criminalizing "illegal reentry" for immigrants. Large school districts must employ school resource officers, and foreign farmland owners face new disclosure requirements. Additional laws cover insurance for breast cancer screenings, new crimes related to AI pornography and grooming, increased crosswalk protections, and labeling requirements for plant-based meat alternatives.
