Housing Fair Event to be Hosted Today at the Memorial Union

Iowa State University’s Student Engagement will host the Housing Fair today, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Memorial Union's Durham Great Hall. This event is designed to help students explore housing options and access important resources, such as financial advice, city codes, and tenant rights. The fair will feature 29 vendors offering information on various housing options in Ames, as well as guidance on leases, budgeting, and legal services. Students are encouraged to bring their student IDs and prepare questions to make the most of the event.

Ames Utility Customer Service Extends Hours to Meet Customer Needs

Ames Utility Customer Service will begin offering extended hours starting Monday, Sept. 30, as part of a pilot program aimed at improving convenience for customers. The office, located on the first floor of City Hall at 515 Clark Ave., will open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Jan. 3, 2025.

The extended hours, opening an hour earlier, are in response to customer feedback and may be continued based on its success. During this time, customers can access services via phone, email, and in-person visits. For added convenience, utilities like water, sewer, and electric services can also be managed online.

Nominations Open for Ames Regional Economic Alliance Annual Awards

The Ames Regional Economic Alliance is now accepting nominations for its Annual Awards, recognizing individuals and businesses for outstanding service and contributions to the community. If you know someone deserving of this honor, submit their nomination by filling out the Annual Awards Nomination Form. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 11.

Cyclones in the NFL - Week Three Recap

Former Iowa State standouts made a significant impact across the NFL in Week 3. Here's a look at how the Cyclones performed:

Brock PurdySan Francisco 49ers
Despite the 49ers' 27-24 loss to the Rams, Purdy delivered an impressive performance, completing 22-of-30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. He added 41 rushing yards on 10 attempts. Purdy is currently second in the NFL in passing yards.

Breece HallNew York Jets
In the Jets' 24-3 win over the Patriots, Hall recorded 16 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown, along with four catches for 29 yards. Hall has now scored three touchdowns this season.

David MontgomeryDetroit Lions
Montgomery continued his stellar play with 23 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' 20-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. He has scored a rushing touchdown in every game this season.

Will McDonald IVNew York Jets
McDonald notched two sacks and three tackles in the Jets' dominant win over New England. He now ranks second in the NFL in sacks with five through three games.

Allen LazardNew York Jets
Lazard contributed three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown, helping the Jets secure a win over the Patriots. Lazard is tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns.

Charlie KolarBaltimore Ravens
Kolar caught one pass for 30 yards in the Ravens' 28-25 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Other Cyclones, including Xavier Hutchinson, Jake Hummel, Anthony Johnson Jr., Eyioma Uwazurike, and T.J. Tampa, were active but had limited or no statistical contributions in Week 3.

The next round of games will kick off this weekend, with several Cyclones looking to continue their strong starts to the season.

Iowa State vs. Utah Primer

Iowa State (3-5-2, 1-1 Big 12) heads to Utah (4-4-2, 1-2 Big 12) for the first-ever meeting between the two teams today at 8 p.m. in Salt Lake City. The Cyclones aim for their second straight Big 12 road win and their 200th program victory.

ISU, coming off a tough loss to No. 21 Colorado, will face a Utah squad that has lost two straight but holds a strong 4-2-1 record at home. The Cyclones boast a balanced offense led by seniors Magdalena Keck and Morgan Furmaniak, with goalkeeper Avery Gillahan anchoring the defense with 53 saves this season.

Utah’s offense is powered by Taliana Kaufusi, the conference leader in goals with nine. The Utes share the ball well, ranking second in the league for assists.

Up next, ISU will stay in Utah to face BYU on Monday, Sept. 30.

Jon Messick Invitational Primer

Iowa State tennis heads to Fort Collins, Colorado, this weekend to compete in the Jon Messick Invitational, hosted by Colorado State. This is the second consecutive year the Cyclones will participate in the event.

Coach Jaron Maestas highlighted the importance of gaining experience in altitude conditions, with four Big 12 altitude schools on the road this season.

Last weekend, ISU dominated the K-State Invitational with a 20-6 overall record. Anna Supapitch Kuearum also impressed at the ITA All-American Championships, advancing to the round of 32.

The tournament runs from Friday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Sept. 29.

William West served as the mayor of Ames, Iowa, from 1870-1871. He was the proprietor of the West Hotel. Before moving to Iowa, West was a legislator in Ohio. According to early Ames pioneer C.E. Taylor, West was childhood friends with future President General Ulysses S. Grant. Besides his mayoral role, he was a member of the City Council, the Board of Education, and the Methodist Episcopal Church. However, he resigned as mayor within the first three months of his one-year term, which was subsequently filled by W. D. Lucas.
