Iowa State Women Command Cyclone Preview
The Iowa State women's cross country team swept the top-six individual spots to claim the team title at the Cyclone Preview. Junior Maelle Porcher led the Cyclones, finishing first with a time of 16:58.8.
Seniors Bella Heikes and Taylor Briggs finished second and fourth, respectively, while junior Riley Beach took third place. Freshman Josie Baker made a strong debut, finishing fifth, and Sydney Morrell took sixth. Freshmen Claire White and Becca Heitzig also secured top-10 finishes, placing eighth and ninth.
Despite a tough training week, the Cyclones showed strong performances, providing a positive outlook for the upcoming season.
Cyclone Men Defend Home Course
The Iowa State men's cross country team secured the team title at the Cyclone Preview for the second consecutive year. Sophomore Devan Kipyego claimed the top individual finish, narrowly edging out teammate Ryan Watts. Both runners broke the previous 6K course record by nearly 20 seconds, with Kipyego's time of 17:38.8 setting a new course best.
Sophomores Emanuel Galdino and Seth Clevenger finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Quinton Orr placed seventh, rounding out ISU's top-10 finishers. ISU's success came despite not running their top-eight returning athletes, allowing younger team members to step up and deliver strong performances.
Collin Reichert Receives LAS Young Alumni Award
Congratulations to LAS alum, Collin Reichert (geology) for being named one of this year’s recipients of the LAS Young Alumni Award. #LASProud
Collin Reichert has been teaching in the Ames Community School District since 2011, earning numerous awards for his work in science education at both Ames Middle School and Ames High School. Reichert co-founded The Community Academy, which offers hands-on, nature-based learning experiences to youth in Iowa, and his teaching philosophy focuses on applying scientific concepts to real-world projects that benefit the community.
Ames CSD Welcomes Kaitlynn Wulfekuhle
Welcome Kaitlynn Wulfekuhle, an Integrated Service Teacher at Meeker Elementary. Wulfekuhle became a teacher because she was inspired by playing "school" with her grandma's old teaching supplies and hearing her stories. If she has an hour of free time, she would like to go to the gym, hang out with friends/family, read romance/mystery books, or play with her new puppy.
Labor Day Closure: No Classes or Open Buildings on Sept. 2
There will be no classes and all buildings will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 2, 2024. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 3 which is also the first day of school for preschool students at Northwood Preschool.
