Ames PD Adjusts Hiring Process to Fill Open Positions
The Ames Police Department is temporarily suspending its civil service hiring process to address a staffing shortage of six officers. Approved by the City Council, the suspension allows continuous recruitment instead of waiting for certified candidate lists. The change, effective for 12 months, aims to speed up hiring, which has been slowed by the lengthy civil service process. The department currently employs 50 full-time officers but faces further gaps due to training, military leave, and injuries.
