Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Sixty Forward Center Set for Saturday

The $10 million Sixty Forward Center will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Saturday, marking the official opening of its wellness and social space for people aged 60 and over. The center, located at 205 S. Walnut Ave., features a bistro, duckpin bowling, workout equipment, and gathering spaces. It opens to the public on Monday, Sept. 30. A collaboration between Heartland of Story County, Mary Greeley Medical Center, and Ames Parks and Recreation, the center aims to foster connection and support healthy, vibrant aging.

Key partners include Heartland, Meals on Wheels, and the Senior Health Insurance Program.

ISU’s Culinary Food Science Program Gains National Certification

Iowa State University’s Culinary Food Science program has achieved official certification as an RCA Culinology® program, recognized by the Research Chefs Association (RCA). This certification, granted in May 2024, positions Iowa State’s program among the top in the nation, offering students enhanced opportunities in food product development and networking. The program now allows students to pursue professional certifications like Certified Research Chef and Certified Culinary Scientist, significantly boosting career prospects. Iowa State students will also attend the RCA national conference in St. Louis this spring.

Memorial Union Unveils New Study Lounge with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Iowa State University's Memorial Union celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated second-floor lounge and study space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The space features comfortable seating, tables, and collaboration areas with TVs for student use. Based on student feedback, the lounge provides a "living room" atmosphere, complete with soft seating and a water vapor fireplace. Since its soft opening in August, the lounge has become popular for studying and relaxing. After the ceremony, attendees enjoyed cake, coffee, and lemonade to celebrate the Union’s 96th anniversary.

Narker Named Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week

Iowa State tennis player Ashlee Narker has been named the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week after going undefeated at the K-State Invitational. Narker, a sophomore from Saint Ives, Australia, finished with a perfect 6-0 record, winning three singles and three doubles matches.

Her strong performances at the No. 1 spot helped the Cyclones to a 20-6 overall record in the tournament. Narker and her teammates will look to continue their success at the Jon Messick Invitational in Fort Collins, Colorado, this weekend.

The Cyclone Club supports over 450 Iowa State student-athletes by raising funds that help them compete at the highest level, while also preparing them for life after sports.

Three Cyclones Finish Unbeaten; Kuearum Falls in Round of 32

Ashlee Narker, Cristina Ramos Sierra, and Suzanie Pretorius went undefeated at the K-State Invitational, while Anna Supapitch Kuearum reached the round of 32 at the ITA All-American Championships.

Kuearum won her second-round match against East Tennessee State’s Daniela Rivera, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5, but was eliminated by Vanderbilt's Valeria Ray, 6-3, 7-6 (2).

At the K-State Invitational, Iowa State finished 5-1 in singles on Sunday. Narker, Ramos, and Pretorius completed unbeaten weekends, while Julia Camblor and Valeska San Martin Ramirez also secured wins.

Iowa State Football's Home Game Against Baylor Scheduled

Iowa State football's Big 12 game against Baylor on Saturday, October 5, is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox.

The No. 19 Cyclones (3-0) are coming off a dominant 52-7 win over Arkansas State last Saturday, where quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, adding another on the ground.

Baylor (2-2) visits after an overtime loss to Colorado and currently holds a 0-1 record in Big 12 play.
