Iowa State women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly announced an ambitious non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season during the team’s annual preseason meeting. The Cyclones will face formidable opponents, including three of last season’s Final Four teams: reigning national champions South Carolina and perennial powerhouse UConn, among others.

Despite a roster of many freshmen last season, Iowa State reached the Big 12 Tournament title game and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, coming within one win of the Sweet 16. With most of the roster, including the top three scorers, returning and strengthened by new transfers and a solid freshmen class, the Cyclones are poised for an even bigger season. Players like Arianna Jackson and Audi Crooks expressed excitement about the challenges ahead, seeing the tough schedule as an opportunity to prove themselves and grow as a team.

David Carr Named Big 12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year

David Carr has been honored as the 2024 Big 12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the third Cyclone to receive this distinction. Carr, also named Iowa State's Male Athlete of the Year, excelled both academically and athletically. He completed his master’s degree in education with a 3.74 GPA, earning numerous academic honors, including National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American and First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection.

On the mat, Carr had a stellar season with a 27-2 record, winning his second national title and becoming the 17th Cyclone to achieve multiple national titles. He received the Amateur Wrestling News' Hammer Award for his performance at the NCAA Championships, defeating top seeds including the No. 1, 2, and 5. Carr's impressive 40:3 takedown ratio and his contributions helped Iowa State secure its first Big 12 team title since 2009 and achieve a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
