Fourth of July 5K honors ISU coach Bill Bergan, raises funds and awareness for Friendship Ark

Coach Bill Bergan ran in a July Fourth 5k in 2017. Founder of the run that benefits Friendship Ark, Bergan's legacy continues this Fourth of July with the 20th anniversary.

The "Bill Bergan 5K on the 4th," a fun run organized in memory of the late Iowa State University coach Bill Bergan, is celebrating its 20th anniversary at Ada Hayden Park. The event, now organized by Friendship Ark, raises funds and awareness for the organization, which supports adults with intellectual disabilities. Bill Bergan, who passed away in November 2022, was instrumental in founding Friendship Ark and was a highly respected coach at ISU, where he led teams to numerous championships. Alongside his coaching career, he and his wife Karen started Championship Productions, a leading producer of coaching instructional materials. The event reflects Bergan's lifelong dedication to inclusiveness, athletics, and community service.
