Story County General Election Voting Information
The 2024 general election is set for Nov. 5, offering Story County residents the chance to vote on key races, including U.S. Representative District 4, Iowa Senate, and House candidates. Early voting starts Oct. 16, and absentee ballots can be requested until Nov. 4. Local uncontested races include the Board of Supervisors, auditor, and sheriff. Voters will also decide on a $25 million conservation bond to improve water quality, parks, and trails. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Voter registration ends on Oct. 21. Late registrants can register on Election Day by providing proof of identity and residency.

Iowa State TikTok Creator Faces Assault Charges
Iowa State student and TikTok creator Corey Xavier Barnes, 21, was arrested after allegedly stabbing two people with a butter knife in an apartment on Lincoln Way. Barnes reportedly attacked after an argument escalated, stabbing one victim in the head and another in the neck and face. He faces charges including Willful Injury and First-Degree Harassment. Barnes posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on October 28. One victim required hospitalization following the incident.
OSU SGA Visits Iowa State for Big 12 Conference
Oklahoma State University's Student Government Association (SGA) representatives visited Iowa State University for the Big 12 student government meeting. The event fostered collaboration, allowing schools to share challenges and solutions. OSU's SGA presented initiatives like "Lights on Stillwater" and explored differences in student fees, budgets, and amenities across universities. Despite OSU's smaller budget, its initiatives were well-received by other schools. The trip reinforced SGA's mission to enhance student life and build stronger community ties.

Becht’s Running Ability Fuels No. 9 Iowa State's Big 12 Title Hopes
Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht showcased his rushing ability in the Cyclones' thrilling 38-35 win over UCF, rushing for a career-high 97 yards and the game-winning touchdown. Becht’s scrambling plays helped keep the Cyclones’ offense moving, especially on third and fourth downs, as ISU improved to 7-0 for the first time since 1938. Despite two interceptions and defensive struggles, Becht's resilience and Iowa State's toughness kept their Big 12 title hopes alive heading into the bye week.
Cyclones Fall to No. 8 TCU, 4-1, in Home Match
Iowa State soccer dropped a 4-1 decision to eighth-ranked TCU on Sunday in its final home match of the season. The Cyclones (3-9-5, 1-5-3 Big 12) struggled against TCU's potent offense, with Lauren McConnell scoring ISU’s lone goal in the 76th minute. TCU (13-2-2, 8-0-2 Big 12) dominated with goals from Bella Diorio, AJ Hennessey, and Caroline Kelly. Despite a solid performance from goalkeeper Avery Gillahan, ISU couldn’t overcome the Horned Frogs' attack. The Cyclones need a win against Baylor on Friday to keep Big 12 Championship hopes alive.
Cyclones Climb to Seventh at Stanford Intercollegiate
Iowa State women’s golf team moved up three spots to tie for seventh after the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate. The Cyclones posted a team score of 8-over, bringing their total to 15-over heading into the final round. Nichakorn Pinprayoon and Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn both shot 3-over rounds of 74, tying for 21st. Pammy Chookaew surged with an even-par 71 and five birdies, tying for 33rd. Keeley Marx shot a 2-over 73, while Alexandra Vidal finished with a 9-over round. Stanford holds a four-shot lead going into the final day.
