Shorthanded No. 6 Iowa State Falls to No. 20 Stanford in Wrestling Opener

No. 6 Iowa State opened its 2024-25 wrestling season with a close 23-21 loss to No. 20 Stanford, hindered by the absence of five starters. Freshman Adrian Meza earned an early 6-0 lead for the Cyclones with a forfeit win at 125 pounds, but Stanford's Tyler Knox responded with a dominant 10-0 victory at 133 pounds. Although No. 6 Anthony Echemendia secured a key 11-5 win over No. 10 Jaden Abas at 149 pounds, other pivotal matches, including falls against Zach Redding and Kane Naaktgeboren, turned the score in Stanford’s favor. Cyclone debut performances by Evan Bockman and Christian Carroll helped narrow the margin, but the Cardinal ultimately held on for the victory.
