Stonebrook Community Church in Ames will host a last chance sale for Bing cherries and Georgia peaches on Friday, July 26th, from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM CST. The fruit will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and customers can pay with cash or check at the truck.

Overflow Thrift Store Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Special Events and Offers

Overflow Thrift Store is celebrating its 10th anniversary today, marking a decade of community care and support. Located at 202 S Duff in Ames, Overflow has donated nearly $1 million locally and globally to help those in need, thanks to the dedication of its founders, staff, volunteers, and customers.

To commemorate the milestone, Overflow is hosting an Anniversary Festival Celebration on Saturday, September 14th, from 11 AM to 3 PM. In the meantime, customers can purchase an Overflow reusable tote for $10 and fill it with $12 worth of merchandise for free, while supplies last.]

The ongoing Vacation Bible School at Lutheran Church of Hope - Ames wraps up today. The event has been a huge success, with children engaging in games, storytime, crafts, and dancing. Participants learned about the transfiguration of Jesus and the Ten Commandments, understanding that God's rules are meant to enhance life. It's been a fun and educational week, filled with activities that deepened the children's faith and brought the community together.

Center of the Running Community: Fitness Sports

If your New Year’s resolution includes getting in shape for a 5K or rekindling your fitness routine, meet Seth Kilborn at Fitness Sports in Downtown Ames. Opened in July 2023, Fitness Sports is quickly becoming a hub for the local running community.

Kilborn, a lifelong runner, shares his passion by providing expert advice and personalized shoe fittings, including free gait analysis. Catering to both runners and walkers, Fitness Sports ensures customers get the right shoes for their needs.

Kilborn's athletic journey includes competing for Indian Hills Community College and Grand View University. Despite a recent injury in a 50-mile race, he continues to pursue ultra-races, aiming to master the 50-mile distance and eventually tackle a 100-mile race.

49 Cyclones Named to Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team

The Big 12 Conference announced that 49 Iowa State student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team for the 2023-24 academic year. Honorees come from 14 sports, including men's basketball, women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field, wrestling, women's basketball, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and volleyball.

Five Cyclones achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA: Cade Kelderman (men's basketball), Jack Sadowsky (football), Lucas Morrison (men's track and field), Nathan Vincent (men's track and field), and Arianna Jackson (women's basketball).

To qualify, student-athletes must be freshmen or new to their school, complete at least 24 semester hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, and participate in at least one team contest during the NCAA Championship segment.

ISU and We Will Collective Introduce We Will Pizza at Jack Trice Stadium

Iowa State Athletics, in partnership with We Will Collective and Cyclone Sports Properties, is bringing We Will Pizza to Jack Trice Stadium for all Cyclone football games this fall. This initiative supports Iowa State student-athletes, with 100% of profits from pizza sales going towards NIL efforts.

Story County GOP Announces 2024 Judge Joseph Story Dinner

The Republican Party of Story County has announced the 2024 Judge Joseph Story Dinner, featuring U.S. Congressmen Jim Jordan and Randy Feenstra on August 3. The annual event honors Judge Joseph Story, who served on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1811-1845.

“We have a unique opportunity to hear from Congressmen Jordan and Feenstra,” said Brett Barker, Story County GOP Chairman. “At a time of open borders and skyrocketing inflation, we are looking forward to welcoming two champions for taxpayers and the rule of law to Story County.”
