Residents of unsanitary apartments at 228 and 232 Welch Avenue in Ames are struggling to find new homes after the city condemned the buildings. Tenants, like Kate Reynoldson, have faced deteriorating health and living conditions. The city served eviction notices due to numerous code violations, including broken windows, leaks, and missing smoke detectors.
Ames City Council has allocated $25,000 to help the displaced residents. Organizations like the Bridge Home and Home Allies are providing support. Some tenants have found new accommodations, while others remain in temporary housing.
